Girl Identity (ガール・アイデンティティー, Gāru Aidentitī^?) is the seventh episode of Hanayamata anime series. The episode premiered on August 18, 2014.

Plot

Yaya’s band went to an audition, but sadly they ended up not passing. The next day at class, she replies to her band mates message while Hana and Naru asks her to come for a dance practice.

During the dance practice, Ms Sari makes the girls wearing animal costume, much to Hana and her classmates chagrin. With the girls needing some costumes for their performance, Tami manages to get Machi to let them use some old costumes from the former rakugo club. As a sign of gratitude, Tami hugs Machi an act which embarrasses Machi and result in Tami gets a hit on her head by Machi. When the girls are picking their favourite costumes, Yaya receives a message from her band mates calling her to come over to the club room. Yaya becomes depressed when she learns that her band decides to break up following their failed audition and ran home. That night, Yaya receives message from her classmate asks her to come practice and show her the costume they picked. The next day when the girls are practicing the dance, Yaya watches them behind the door at the rooftop and literally walks away and then vent out her frustration at the club room. The girls starts to wonder why Yaya does not want to join them in the Yosakoi dance practice because she did not appear at the roof top. They asks Yaya to join them in the Yosakoi practicing and show her the costume-making materials, but are rejected.

Learning what happened to the band, Naru and Hana meets Yaya the next day and try to console Yaya, but she lashes out at them, saying she hates everyone and doesn't want to be friends with Naru anymore. Not wanting things to end like this, with the advice from Tami, Naru and Hana use a bold movement to bring Yaya to the rooftop, where Yaya confesses she was jealous of Naru being able to gain friends. Realising she has a place alongside Naru and the others, Yaya decides to become a more earnest member of the yosakoi club.
